UFCW Local 876 (Detroit) Ratifies Agreement with Kroger
Thursday, June 24, 2010

Members of Local 876 in Michigan have ratified a new three-year contract with Kroger. The contract coversaround 12,000 members at more than 100 Kroger stores.  The new contract includes bonuses of up to $1500 for workers, as well as a top rate increase in all jobs. It also
holds the line on health insurance costs for members and ensures that Kroger will make 100 percent of the pension contributions.

“Michigan’s poor economy and high unemployment rate made these contract negotiations very difficult,” said Roger Robinson, President of Local 876. “Despite these tough circumstances, we were able to deliver on the members’ main goals of protecting their health insurance and pension benefits. The bargaining committee fought hard, stood up to Kroger’s unreasonable demands and left the bargaining table confident they reached the best contract possible without taking drastic action.”

The new contract also establishes surpluses in the health and welfare funds to guarantee their long-term fiscal health and insure a stronger negotiating position at contract expiration.
