Mike Newman embodies the saying “The steward is the Union’s first line of defense.” Serving as a steward for 32 years, Mike fulfills his position with dedication, tenacity, professionalism and detail. During his time as a steward, Mike has served on numerous bargaining committees and as a vice president on the Union’s executive board.
Mike is currently head dairy manager at Kroger store #957 where his wife Andrea works as head deli manager. Together they are the proud parents of three sons: Michael, Joe and John. John followed in his parents’ footsteps, joining them at Kroger as a stock clerk, while Michael and John are both ordained priests serving the Catholic Diocese of Toledo.
Whether in store as a steward or at the table with the bargaining committee, Mike consistently does a great job representing the members. Many of Mike’s Union brothers and sisters owe him thanks, as many jobs with his attention detail and professional manner while negotiating settlements with management.
Mike’s hard work and the great job he does serving as a role model to others while representing the Union to the highest of standards. With all of the dedication he brings to Local 75, it will be hard to replace him when he retires next year.
Local 75 thanks Mike Newman for representing our Union with such passion, dedication and class.
We wish you the best in your retirement!
