This week, UFCW Local 75 union stewards in Cincinnati, Dayton, and Toledo attended trainings led by Wellstone Action. The program was a departure from past steward seminars, as members participated in workshops on organizing, volunteer recruitment, building member engagement.
Unlike years past, when stewards from across the local came together for one large program, Local 75 and Wellstone Action hosted seminars in Cincinnati, Dayton, and Toledo this year with the goal of providing a more interactive and participatory experience.
In light of the ongoing attacks on workers across the country, and with “right to work” on the horizon in Ohio, members of Local 75 are working to build our organizing and mobilization capacity across the union.
This format of this year’s steward seminars reflects our union’s mission to address inequality in our economy and in our communities through education, organizing, and political action.
During the seminars, members also had the opportunity to hear from Michael Bride, UFCW Deputy Organizing Director for Global Strategies. Bride’s presentation brought Local 75 stewards up to speed on the work our International union is doing to build solidarity with workers overseas.
